The former arch-rivals reached a peace pact on March 9, bringing to an end their political enmity that fully played out after their August 8 presidential contest.

In a tweet Thursday, Ledama claimed that the truce has also seen the Interior Ministry save millions of shillings daily, no longer having to combat protesting opposition supporters as was the case after Uhuru’s controversial reelection.

‘’The handshake saved Kenya! At minimum the interior ministry saved Ksh 10million a day immediately after the handshake. No more deployments of police! @citizentvkenya #NewsGang thanks @RailaOdinga and @UKenyatta,’’ he said.

In the spirit of the handshake, the leaders on Tuesday led their allies to Kisumu county which was the center of demonstrations and skirmishes after Raila rejected Uhuru’s reelection, citing rigging.

Both leaders pledged their seriousness in realizing the content of their agreement, pledging to remain united for the benefit of Kenyans going forward.

Also present was Deputy President William Ruto who rubbished claims that he is opposed to the truce, adding that he is actually completely behind the initiative to rebuild the nation.

“Today, I have come to Kisumu. Some people have been saying that I don’t support the handshake. I want to tell you today that I support the handshake,” the DP was quoted by the Standard.
