Passengers aboard a Jomwamu bus were formed to spend their night in the cold after the bus crew fled, leaving them all alone in the vehicle.
The Busia bound TCB sacco vehicle reportedly developed technical issues almost immediately after leaving Nairobi, before completely halting at the University of Nairobi Science Campus along Ngong Road.
A passenger said that the crew were severally forced to push the vehicle with registration number KBJ 732R, before the driver and conductor excused themselves to seek a new vehicle into which they were to be shifted.
However, according to Sellie Ondiso, one of the passengers, they did not return, forcing the passengers to spend their Saturday night on the road.
"The bus driver and conductor then told us that they were going to bring another vehicle onto which we would be transferred so as to continue with the journey but they never came back," she told the Citizen Digital.
She added that attempts to get help from the police were futile, with the law enforcers saying that it was not their job to intervene in such cases.
Ms Ondiso noted that it was a big blow to most of the passengers who were students returning to school from the mid term break, most of whom were expected in school by Sunday evening.
"We tried contacting the police for help but they told us that that is not their work," she added.
Police officers from the Kilimani Police Station toured the scene on Sunday morning, saying that the vehicle will be towed to the station and alternative transport methods sought for the passengers.
