Deputy President William Ruto, going by his political activities will contest for the presidency in 2022.
Even negative energy from some of Mt Kenya as well as Rift Valley politicians who are uncomfortable seeing him succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta has not been adequate to deter his quest to vie for the country's top seat.
He is crisscrossing the country launching development projects, as he continues to draw closer politicians from different regions to help him campaign ahead of the next polls.
But how unique is the DP from his likely opponents? What characteristics place him ahead of the game?
1. Eloquence
Ruto is a good public speaker. He exhibits the ability to charm crowds in rallies and subsequently convince undecided voters to cast their ballots in his favour.
Presently, the only politician rivalling the DP in oratory skills is opposition leader Raila Odinga.
2. Mobilisation skills
This dates back to the early 90s when he was part of the 'Youth For KANU 92' group when he alongside other youthful politicians successfully campaigned for then-President Daniel Arap Moi.
His mobilisation abilities are so strong that even today Kenyans know opposition leaders the DP has convinced to join to his camp, among them Malindi's Aisha Jumwa and Msambweni's Suleiman Dori who are also allies of Raila.
Tens of MPs elected to Parliament last year on opposition tickets are currently advocating that Ruto succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta.
3. Political experience
Ruto did not join politics recently. He directly campaigned for Moi in 1992 before joining Parliament as MP for Eldoret North.
He successfully rallied Rift Valley residents to vote for Uhuru in 2013, a development majority Kenyans believed would never happen, Kenya having emerged from a post-election crisis in which members of the Kalenjin and Kikuyu communities fought, leaving over 1,300 people dead and more than 650,000 displaced.#hivisasaoriginal
