Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo hit headlines on June 17, 2011, when a university student died under unclear circumstances after attending a party where the politician was one of the guests.
Kabogo, the then Juja MP, was linked to the case following the demise of Mercy Keino, who was among the campus girls who attended the party on that fateful night.
The Kiambu politician was questioned and asked to record a statement with the police over the death of Keino.
Keino's body was found on Waiyaki Way, where it had been run over by vehicles.
One of the witnesses claimed to have seen the body of Keino being thrown out of a dark Mercedes Benz, reports the powerful politician said he had no knowledge about.
When asked for a comment by the media, the former county boss asked the people who were spreading rumours about the death of Keino, to share the information they had with the police rather than the public, adding that he had already recorded a statement.
The party, which was attended by the wealthy politician was held at Wasini Luxury Homes on Church Road — off Waiyaki Way, Nairobi.
It was reported that the deceased was involved in an argument with an unknown man before she left the party.
She was later found dead on Waiyaki Way.
One of Keino's friend, identified as Scolastica Kamemba told an inquest that Kabogo had slapped Keino before she stormed out of the party.
Kamemba claimed that Kabogo got irritated after Keino, who was drunk, started shouting and even broke some glasses.
“Mr Kabogo started slapping her while asking who had brought her to the party. Mercy got very scared and wanted to run away but some security officers and the MP’s bodyguards grabbed her and took her to the gate,” said Kamemba, as quoted by the Nation.
She said they were denied entry into the apartment, adding that Keino later took off and that was the last time she saw her.
Kabogo was in October 2016 cleared of any wrongdoing by a High Court sitting in Nairobi.
