The county government of Uasin Gishu is planning to use solar energy to pump water to its locals.
Governor Jackson Mandago says the county has a potential to produce infinite solar energy.
Speaking at Kapropu dam on Wednesday, the governor said his government purposes to harness the sun to pump water to households.
"Scientists place Uasin Gishu as the best ground to produce strong solar energy. We have purposed to harness this to power up water projects so that residents upstream can also access water from this dam," said Mandago who has already rolled out an ambitious water program, dubbed the 'last pipe connectivity' that targets to connect all households in the county to tap water.
"Solar energy will then ensure that wananchi will be served by all other dams, get access to water at affordable costs," he added.
The County head noted that the Kapropu dam will be able to hold up to 150 million litres of water and will serve four villages as well as public facilities around the area.
According to County Executive for Water Mary Njogu, the dam is expected to be complete before the rains.
Njogu further said many other dams were being desilt across the county noting that they are working on ensuring they are complete by end of the month.
Desilting works in four other dams are also ongoing with Chesogor dam in Megun Ward complete, Cheptuon dam in Segero/Barsombe Ward in promising stages while Usalama dam is expected to be completed by end of the month.
Kingwaal, Lelkotet, Ngenyilel, Ndemu, Kipsigak, Ziwa and Kisor dams are also next on line.
