On October 20, 2016, during Mashujaa day celebrations, Kalonzo revealed that Maraga was his classmate.

Kalonzo congratulated the Supreme Court's president following his appointment to the position.

He exuded confidence that Maraga has what it takes to change the Judiciary.

“Allow me to congratulate my classmate Justice Maraga for having been appointed as Kenya’s new Chief Justice,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo studied Law at the University of Nairobi.

The politician has, however, not been practicing Law for some time until recently when he appeared in court to defend Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu following the corruption related accusations leveled against her.

Kalonzo said Mwilu was innocent terming the accusations as ill-timed and intended.

The relationship between NASA leaders including Kalonzo and Mwilu was among the issues of great concern in the case that saw Mwilu hit the headlines for a week.

On the other hand, Maraga became more popular not only in Kenya but the entire world when he nullified President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto’s August 8, 2017's victory.

Maraga called for fresh presidential elections, a contest in which former Prime Minister Raila Odinga decided to pull out.
