Residents of Riokindo in Keumbu, Nyaribari Chache constituency in Kisii County were left in a rude shock after an unknown woman gave birth to a bouncing baby boy and dumped him in a local bush before she went into hiding.
According to witness Beatrice Nyakerario, she rushed to a bush after she heard the baby crying only to find the baby abandoned there.
"The baby was wrapped with a napkin. I raised alarm to attract members of the public who arrived before we rushed the baby to Keumbu hospital," she said.
Nyakererio assured that she is ready to take care of the baby because it was her luck to found the baby.
Area chief Ben Ogwoka said the doctors at Keumbu hospital said the baby was stable.
"Young women who are pregnant should stop giving birth and end up dumping the babies. It is advisable for young mothers to seek guidance on how they should take care of their babies," he said.
He urged the woman who dumped the baby to surrender herself to his office saying no legal action will be taken against her.
"The mother of the baby should come to my office so that she can have her baby handed over to her. No one is going to take legal action because the baby was found alive," noted Ogwoka.
