Activist Boniface Mwangi has been released a few hours after he was arrested for allegedly planning a revolution against the government.
Speaking after his release on Monday afternoon, Mwangi said the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives who arrested him at his home did not tell him the reasons behind the arrest.
He, however, revealed that upon reaching the DCI offices, he was informed that he was allegedly part of a group planning a revolution in the country.
"They said they have been told to arrest me, they did not give me any reason. I came here and went to the DCI offices where I was told that I am part of a group planning a revolution. I don't know whether those people are military, civilians or civil society, but there is intelligence that there are people planning to topple the government; that is what they told me," said Mwangi.
The vocal artist argued that it is a waste of taxpayers money for the government to arrest someone on the basis of rumours, adding if the time for a revolution has come, it will happen with or without him.
"It is a waste of taxpayers money to summon someone on allegations or rumours. If people are tired and want a revolt they should be allowed to revolt," Mwangi added.
