After many speculations on who will take over from Kisii County Governor James Ongwae, there is a possibility that Ongwae might be in the ballot if there will be a referendum on term limits and it goes through to allow governors serve a more than two-term limit.
This is after a draft document by a special committee co-chaired by Governor Kivutha Kibwana and Kiraitu Murungi preparing for a possible referendum on behalf of the Council of Governors claiming that it will not fair for other elected members such as MPs and MCAs going for reelections without limit.
If the law passes, those eyeing for gubernatorial seat in Kisii will be in a rude shock as Ongwae might again tremble the ground in his campaigns.
Among the people who have shown their interest in the county's top seat includes the Dagoretti Mp Simba Arati, Kisii county MP Janet Ong'era, Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi among others.
The law also looks forward to reducing the powers entrusted to MCAs. Such that, the MCAs cannot impeach a governor. This follows the recent past when MCA's almost impeached their Governors over flimsy circumstances, something governors want to do away with.
