Addressing mourners on Monday evening at Riagongera in Bosoti Sengera Ward, Bomachoge Chache Constituency, Maangi said parents should be vigilant enough to ensure their children do not engage in criminal activities.

"Children are closing schools for the long December holiday. I urge all parents to ensure their children are safe until next year when schools will re-open," said Maangi.

He expressed concerns that the long holiday may see many teenage girls and boys engage in illicit sexual behaviour should parents fail to advise their daughters and sons accordingly.

Maangi noted that every parent must take care of his or her children during the long holidays.

"Let parents not allow children to party in night clubs and consume alcohol. HIV/Aids infection and early pregnancy cases may be at the peak if teenage boys and girls are left to party. The long holiday should not harm learners," he stated.

The deputy governor challenged administration officers led by chiefs to help parents in ensuring proper disciplinary measures are applied to children who misbehave.
