Police officers in Kisii County are pursuing a man who lured a minor into a bush and defiled her on Wednesday.
Kisii Police Commander Martin Kibet said the suspect identified as Julius Magero, 30, lured the minor aged 12 while she was returning home from school into a local bush in Nyamorenyo village, Marani sub-county where he defiled her.
Kibet said that the minor screamed which attracted the attention of passersby who rescued her.
"The minor told police that the suspect lured her into the bush promising her sweets where he ended up defiling her before members of the public came to her rescue after they were attracted by the loud screams," said Kibet as Egesa FM reports.
He said the suspect fled from the scene immediately a member of the public arrived at the scene.
The commander added that the victim was rushed to Marani sub-county hospital but later referred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialised treatment as her private parts were damaged during the ordeal.
"Members of the public should cooperate and ensure the suspect is apprehended to face the full force of the law. Men like Magero belong to jail," noted Kibet.
