A section of Muslim leaders in Eldoret town has disowned the Uasin Gishu county chairman of the Muslim Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Sheikh Abubakar Bini.
Led by Sheikh Mohamed Hussein of Eldoret Jamia mosque, the Muslim leaders termed Sheikh Bini as a busybody only interested in feeding his stomach at the pretence of speaking on behalf of the Muslims in the county.
"I want to state here clearly that the so-called CIPK chairman does not represent Muslims' interests because he was not elected by anyone but just a street guy looking for something to eat," said Hussein in Eldoret town, Saturday.
The leaders wondered why Bini usually runs to the media misleading Muslims yet he is not their official spokesman and does not represent any mosque in the county.
"Last year we went to Kitale for elections but Bini was nowhere to be seen and thereafter we went to the main office in Nairobi to know his whereabouts and learnt that he is not recognized there also," added Uasin Gishu Muslim Association chairman Mohamed Kipkoskei.
The leaders now say Bini has no authority to speak on behalf of the Muslim community in Uasin Gishu county or any other place.
Bini has been a vocal Muslim leader in Eldoret town, regularly commenting on both local and national issues and he recently hit out at the National Assembly leader of majority Adan Duale whom he accused of disrespecting the office of the Chief Kadhi following a row on the gazettement of a holiday to allow Muslims celebrate Idd ul Adha.
