A form one female student in Kirinyaga County was on Saturday rescued from an abduction plot as police moved in over a tip off. The girl was reportedly abducted by a rogue bodaboda man.
Issuing a statement on the abduction incident, Gichugu Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Mr Anthony Mbogo revealed the 24-year-old bodaboda rider abducted the student during the midterm break.
Further reports also indicate that the bodaboda operator had wanted to force the girl into marriage.
Mbogo added that the suspect was being sought after by detectives and would be arraigned in court to answer abduction charges.
“We are still looking for the boda boda operator and soon he will be arrested and prosecuted,” the officer saidas quoted by Citizen TV.
The said girl, who has since been reunited with her parents, told police officers that she has known her abductor for a while as he served as a casual labourer in Nyeri town.
The incident happens even as the Education Ministry raises concern on rising cases of teenage pregnancies among school students.
Most of such cases have been blamed on bodaboda operators who allegedly lure the young girls into sex with the promise of little cash.
