Estranged Citizen TV anchor Jacque Maribe, in an attempt to clear her name over Monica Kimani's murder, has distanced herself from joint allegations levelled her and Joseph Irungu.
Throughout her affidavits, Ms. Maribe portrays Irungu as a former partner, an indication that the tragedy may have severely affected their relationship.
She says: "The prosecution is relying on phone calls between my and the first accused with whom I had a relationship by then."
"They are pinning me doing because at that time when we had a relationship, he used to have my car and even sleep at my house," argued Maribe, in an attempt to save herself from murder charges.
At some point, Maribe refers herself to a 'single mother', an indication that the relationship has hit a bottom low.
Further, despite claiming at first that Irungu was attacked by armed gunmen, Ms. Maribe has since recanted the statement, claiming that Irungu shot himself at her house in the late hours of the day Ms. Monica was reportedly killed.
During the event, she adds, Mr. Irungu alias Jowie, kept on saying 'I am sorry, I love you', a further indication that the accused my have done something wrong.
On burning of clothes to destroy evidence, Maribe dismisses the allegations by the prosecution, insisting that should such an act happened, then she was not aware.
The couple will return to court on Wednesday where Justice James Wakiaga will listen and determine their bail application.
