Former Subukia Member of Parliament Koigi Wa Wamwere has bashed National Assembly Leader of Minority John Mbadi over his fickleness, regarding the recent introduction of new currency notes.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chair was among the first opposition figures to oppose the inclusion of founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta's images on the notes, terming it unconstitutional.
However, two days later, he made a U-turn, saying that the party is fully behind the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on the move, a character Koigi has termed as fickle.
He claims Mbadi caved in due to external push.
According to the veteran politician and former political detainee, Mbadi must have received instructions from ODM leader Raila Odinga, as he (Raila) seeks to prevent appearing to contradict President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Mbadi alitoa statement kupinga kutumika kwa pesa zenye picha za Kenyatta lakini akapata maagizo tofauti kutoka kwa kiongozi wa chama. (Mbadi released a statement opposing the sue of money depicting images of Kenyatta, but later received contrary instructions from the party boss)," Koigi said during an interview on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi's Cheche show on Saturday evening.
He said that the Suba North MP should have stood his ground if he believes that the new notes go against the 2010 constitution.
The former Nakuru senatorial aspirant also said that Mbadi's actions demonstrate how long the nation will have to go if it has to win the war on graft if leaders cannot stand their ground and fight for want is right.
"Watu vigeugeu kama hawa hawawezi pigana na ufisadi. Kama Mbadi anaogopa mkubwa wa chama na hawezi mkosoa, basi hatuwezi faulu. (Such fickle people cannot fight corruption. If Mbadi fears the party boss and cannot correct him then we cannot succeed)," he added.
Raila and Uhuru have remained close after their truce early last year, a closeness that has seen the former Prime Minister and his team back government's decisions.
