A man from Nyeri County has come under the limelight after he was caught allegedly trying to rip off Shabiki Jackpot winner Peter Nyenze Mumo.
The man, identified as David Maina Karimi, reportedly arrived in Kathiani, Machakos County on Monday and asked to be taken to Mumo’s home claiming he had a message for him from God.
A few of the motorcycle riders in the village got suspicious of his intentions and alerted the police even as others escorted him to the jackpot winner’s home.
On arrival, Karimi is said to have informed Mumo that God desired of him to give a tithe of 10 percent of the jackpot winnings and give a further Sh 5 million to him.
Drama ensued when Mumo is reported to have informed fellow villagers who stormed the home baying for the man’s blood but police officers arrived just in time to save him from the mob.
"We want to kill and completely burn this man into ashes so that others with such nonsense can learn a lesson," resident Peter Museo said in a local dialect.
Karimi was arrested and held at Kathiani Police Station.
Mumo, who hails from Machakos County, won the life-changing Sh33 million by betting with Shabiki.com.
