Bodaboda riders in Nyamira County have lauded former Prime Minister Raila Odinga after he asked police officers to stop harassing riders.
Led by Dominic Babu, the riders said police should not ignore Raila's plea.
"We should be allowed to operate freely without any harassment from police officers during this festive season. As riders we are happy with ODM party leader's intervention to ensure police are not harassing and frustrating us while at work," said Babu.
Babu promised that his colleagues will adhere to the set traffic rules to curb unnecessary accidents.
"There is no cause for alarm because no rider will ride carelessly since it is our mandate to take care of our lives and the lives of our clients," he noted.
Stephen Machoni expressed his happiness saying Raila's intervention is a clear indication that he recognizes boda boda riders not only in Nyamira County but, also across the country.
"We will take police officers head on if they will continue harassing us. No more bribes to be given to police officers because they are getting monthly salaries," said Machoni.
This comes after Raila while speaking on Wednesday at Ndhiwa in Homa Bay County warned police officers against harassing riders.
