A Senate delegation that visited Uasin Gishu to check on the ground for their upcoming 'Senate Mashinani' sittings is impressed by preparations so far as Eldoret is set to host the parliament’s normal sessions from September 23-28.
The Senate leadership on Friday visited and sounded their satisfaction over the readiness for the county to host the parliament's sittings.
Governor Jackson Mandago said Uasin Gishu is pleased and ready to host the historical sittings. It is the first time sittings will be done outside Nairobi.
"We are not only prepared to host the parliamentarians but also ready to participate in committee sittings and present issues that we would like the Senate to prosecute," said Mandago.
"Also, I want to announce that we shall be appearing before the Senate's Public Accounts and Investment Committee to answer to audit queries financial year 2014/15," he added.
Area Senator Margaret Kamar and Petronila Were Lokorio (Nominated) were among legislators who paid the Governor a courtesy call in their visit to check on the progress and preparation for the sessions.
Prof Kamar said: "Committees are ready to have interactive sessions with the public and the leaders. Also, the business community will have their own separate session with the senators to introduce them and deliberate on a law that is ready."
"It is part of the agenda of the Senate that we take our parliament to the mashinani, to the people, because not everyone can make it to Nairobi to present a petition; after all the Senate is constitutionally mandated to champion issues of the counties," added Senator Were.
