President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday delegated DP William Ruto special assignment at State House Mombasa for the first time since he took over in 2013.
For the better part of Saturday, Ruto took visiting Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi around the coastal town of Mombasa, a duty traditionally preserved for the president.
Ruto said: "The integration of the Makonde into the Kenyan society is a potent indication that we can overcome barriers, including discrimination, bias, stereotype and racism to live and interact as one people."
"We welcome their contribution to our socio-economic progress. Pleased to host Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi and the Makonde at State House, Mombasa." https://www.facebook.com/244554088906469/posts/2374498549245335/
The Makonde community was officially integrated as Kenya's 43rd tribe by President Uhuru Kenyatta's government and already some of them have received National Identification cards.
A section of the community migrated to Kenya from Mozambique and has been living in Kwale County for many years.
In 2015 when Uhuru visited ICC at the Hague for the trial of his case, he officially handed over powers to the DP, another rare incident in the history of Kenya.
