Aukot says that the committee chaired by Garissa senator Yusuf Hajji is operating illegally.

Speaking to journalists at Heron hotel in Nairobi on Thursday, the former presidential candidate said that there is no legal basis on which the committee is working.

Aukot, who has written to the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua,  wants taxpayers money  not be used  to fund the committee activities.

“The committee has no legal framework or basis for its existence and is a waste of taxpayers’ money,” he said on Thursday.

Aukot further said that the March 9 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was a personal affair.

He said that unity and reconciliation will only be realized if all leaders are involved.

President Kenyatta in consultation with Raila put in place the building initiative committee that is working on unity agenda.
