Tanzania's basketball team received bitter wrath of Kenya's team after they were mercilessly beaten 95-59 in the opening AfroBasket Qualifiers hosted at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.
In the first quarter, Tanzania failed to get a point as they were beaten 20-0. At half time, Kenya was leading with 44-18 and the match concluded in the third quarter with scores of 72-41.
The six-man Kenyan team gave a hard time to Tanzanians since the first blow of referee's whistle.
Coach Cliff Owuor commended his players especially the defensive players who had played tactically to prevent the opponent from accessing Kenya's basket.
"My boys took long to show their offensive execution but the defence was improved." He said.
The top scorers in the Kenyan team were captain Griffin Ligare who managed 21 points and Eric Mutoro who scored 15 points.
For their rivals, Eric Lugwao was their hero with 20 points while Raashid Haji registered 14 points.
"I managed to bring only seven players but one was not cleared so I will soldier on with six throughout." Coach Alfred Ngalaliji of Tanzania said as quoted.
In the same day, Burundi thrashed Somalia 106-86. Somalia started on a bad note as they were beaten by South Sudan in the openers 112-79.
