On paper, Ruto is the favourite to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta. However, it may not be an easy ride for the former Eldoret North Member of Parliament with his rivals plotting to stop him. The DP seems prepared to take them head-on.

Boasting as one of the biggest political names in the country, Dr. Ruto is a brand of his own. Besides that, he is very hard-working - this is the man who can attend up to five functions in a day. Perhaps his humble beginnings have taught him the importance of hard-work.

Even if President Kenyatta fails to support his 2022 bid as per their agreement when they teamed up ahead of the 2013 poll, the man from Sugoi is capable of mounting a very serious campaign that can shake the country's political landscape. Why? He has deep pockets and the people.

Any serious presidential campaign requires money. And on top of that, he has recruited into his side a good number of members of the political class, both from Jubilee Party and the opposition.

From Nyanza to Central to Coast and indeed across the country, Dr Ruto has assembled a formidable team of current and former MPs to popularise his bid.

In Mt. Kenya region in particular, which has of late become the centre of 2022 politics, Ruto enjoys the support of many sitting MPs.  Even as key allies of the President like former Gatanga MP David Murathe pour cold water on his Presidential bid, "Vitu kwa ground" could be in favour of this one man - Ruto.

Deep pockets, huge political support and closeness to power, can actually propel Ruto to State House. Those expected to battle him should brace themselves for a tough battle.
