Uhuru visited the port in a secret and restricted tour.

So secretive was the president's tour that many locals did not detect his presence in the Lakeside city, though he rode from the Kenyatta International Airport to the Port.

Unlike the case whenever the president comes visiting, Uhuru chose to break the protocol by sharing the road with fellow motorists.

On a normal day, the roads the Head of State is scheduled to use are usually cordoned off hours in advance and heavy security deployed to ensure uninterrupted movement.

Uhuru used Obote road and Oginga Odinga Street, where he rode on vehicles with normal registration numbers, reports the Nation.

Also, the long motorcades were absent and he only used s small motorcade of 10 cars, though some few locals still managed to detect his presence in the city.

Uhuru who was returning from Tanzania was received by Cabinet Secretaries Raychelle Omamo (Defence), James Macharia (Transport) and George Magoha (Education) at the airport at about 2 pm.

At the port, he assessed the progress of the refurbishment as the media and members of the media watched from afar, in a tour that took two hours.

He also examined the MV Uhuru which was recently repaired after 13 years of being grounded at the dry dock ahead of the launch expected to be attended by five African presidents.
