Speaking on Saturday in an exclusive interview with NTV, Kundu said she knew from the beginning of the competition that the golden glove award would be hers.

Throughout the competition, she never conceded a single goal, raising her profile as the best female goalkeeper in East and Central Africa.

"I knew it. I knew I was going to be given the award because of the morale I had from the start of the games (Nilijua. Nilijua nitapewa juu ile morale nilikuwa nayo, nilikuwa najituma nayo kwa game mbona nisipate)," she told NTV's Yoshua Makori.

The Starlets had a great campaign in Tanzania, beating teams from the start to the final, not losing a single match.

They beat the Kilimanjaro Queens of Tanzania 2-0 at the Azam Sports Complex last week, to lift the CECAFA women's challenge trophy.

The CECAFA victory was a much-needed consolation for the Starlets who were bundled out of the 2020 Tokyo, Japan Olympics qualifiers.

Kenya lost to the Copper Queens of Zambia 1-0 in Lusaka, ending their fairy-tale campaign that saw them reach the penultimate stage of the Olympics qualifiers.
