In the 2010 world cup and even in the recent international tournament, the Spanish national soccer team has been drawing most of its players from two main clubs; Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Barcelona produced most players in the 2010 world cup in which Spain went on to be the Champions. This is the same case with the Kenyan club Mathare united. 

Most of the shinning Harambee Stars names passed through Mathare United ranks. 

Dennis Oliech, the legendary top scorer of the National team played for Mathare during his youthful years. 

He played for the Club between 2002 and 2003 before joining Qatar based club, Al Arabi. 

Dancan Ochieng who is one of the longest serving goalkeepers with 43 caps for the national team spent more years with Mathare United : 1994- 2001, 2003-2005, 2006-2007, 2008-2010

Andrew Oyombe, Oliech's brother captained Mathare United in 2009 before joining Sofapaka. He has 12 caps for the national team. 

Eric Johana Omondi, Kenya's goal scoring midfielder played for Mathare United from 2014-2016 where he won the Kenyan midfielder of the year award in 2015.

Titus Mulama, the famous Kenyan winger played for Mathare from 1997-2005, 2006 and 2009. He has played 59 times for the national team. 

Osborne Monday who has 27 caps for Harambee Stars played for the Club between 2005-2007.

Arnold Origi the once upon a time Kenya's number one played for Mathare united from 2001- 2006 before moving to Tusker FC. 

Austin Makacha started his football at Mathare United between 1998-2000 before joining AFC Leopards, and later returned to the club in 2005-2009 and 2010.

Jamal 'Malo' Mohammed started his career at MYSA between 1998-2003, then came back to play for Mathare United in 2012

Jesse Were, the Zesco united and Harambee Stars striker played for Mathare united from 2011-2012.

Paul Were is also a former Mathare United player during his youthful years in 2009 before joining AFC Leopards. 

Everyone will remember Edgar 'fighter' Ochieng. The man was a rock in the heart of the Kenya defense especially when Kenya lost to Nigeria 3-2 at Kasarani. 

Ochieng came from Mathare United ranks before joining Sofapaka. 

These are just few names that are known to have started their football career with the Slum Boys.
