Celebrated musician David Mathenge, alias Nameless, is a principled artist who cannot be influenced by cash, he has told a local paper.

Nameless narrated how he has let millions go because he could not just endorse politicians for office because of what they offer.

“I’ve been offered a lot of money many times to endorse politicians. One offered me a couple of millions to use me and my song, others have offered to pay three or four times my rate to perform at their rallies.

"I’ll be honest with you, the money has been tempting at times. But the question is, will I sleep at night? I cannot publicly endorse someone I don’t even know that well to make quick money,” Nameless told SDE.

The position by Nameless contradicts what has become a trend by even gospel singers who take political sides during elections.

In the hotly contested 2017 elections, gospel singers Ben Githae, Bahati, and Hellena Ken were among artists whose songs were widely used in campaign rallies.

But Nameless says taking political positions is not his cup of tea.

“It goes against my principles. What I normally choose to do during the election period is tell people to register, encourage them to vote, tell them to respect each other, remind them to weigh their choices well because they will live with those choices,” he added.

In his forties, the singer is married to Wahu Kagwe; another star in the music industry.

Wahu has since switched from secular to gospel.

The celebrity couple has managed a drama-free marriage, at least as far as the public knows.
