President Uhuru Kenyatta's two-day tour to the Nyanza region accompanied by his Deputy William Ruto has ignited mixed reactions from the supporters of respective leaders.
Many political pundits are now saying that the DP will have a fair playing ground to endear himself to the Nyanza electorates.
After last year’s general election that marred with malpractices leading to a repeat presidential poll, Ruto has not been making any attempts to visit Nyanza in what political pundits view as the hostility the region as to the second in command who is eying the top seat in 2022.
Dr Mucus Otieno, a legal practitioner in one of the law firms in Eldoret evaluates that the Deputy President's emphatic speech confirming that he is supporting the handshake will outstandingly enable him to crisscross the whole country without political hitches.
“The DP now is the one to rip big from the truce. Raila and Ruto have now vowed to work together to unite the country. Ruto’s regular harambees will extend to Nyanza in his usual tact to resonate with the residents,” Otieno said arguing that those who think DP Ruto is a lone ranger in politics are just ignoring the reality that is well written in laws of power - the carrot will be dangled.
Hamisi Salim, a political commentator however disputed that even if Ruto will be reaching out to the opposition zone, he will have no much influence without Raila hand.
“Ruto making inroads to Nyanza region will not hold waters at all,” Salim argued.
