The ongoing probe to fake gold scandal that could out Kenya at loggerheads with United Arab Emirates has seen one of soft spoken politician being dragged into the scheme.
Mr Zaheer Jhanda, a flamboyant politician from Gusii region of Asian origin has been adversely mentioned in the scandal where a Saudi Royal lost close to Sh400 million.
While Jhanda may be a stranger to many Kenyans; it's not the same case to thousands from Gusii region who fancy politics. In 2013, he vied Nyaribari Chache seat on a Jubilee ticket but lost to Dr Bichage then of ODM.
Months later, he was pictured in the Hague where he had travelled in solidarity with Deputy President William Ruto who was facing crimes against humanity charges at the ICC.
In various photos obtained on social media, Jhanda, who is a leading philanthropist in Gusii, is seen pausing with President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in separate events.
Also, in 2017, Jhanda would ditch Jubilee for Wiper. Before elections, he was pictured with former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka in a campaign trail.
The dragging of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to the scandal by some netizens is also backed by photos of him with Mr Jhanda in past events.
When Don Bosco Gichana was released from Tanzania jail, Jhanda is one of the people who accompanied him to a meeting with Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, another suspect in the scandal.
Known for his charity, Jhanda is popular among the youth is Gusii. He is yet to speak over the gold scandal, which could shake the country's war against graft.
