Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile has expressed his discontentment over the manner in which Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was handled during his arrest.
Speaking in Machakos on Sunday, Ndile lamented that the manner in which the county boss was arrested is not only uncalled for but also inhuman.
He said how the county boss was handcuffed and airlifted to Nairobi is demeaning to a leader of his calibre, adding that action must be taken against the officers who were tasked with the same.
His remarks come after a video of the county boss being harassed by the police surfaced online.
“As leaders, we are disturbed by the manner in which Governor Sonko was arrested and airlifted in a police chopper only to be taken to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices. This is harassment,” said Ndile.
Ndile said that Sonko deserved better treatment despite the fact that he is facing graft allegations.
The former lawmaker said that the arrest came at a time when President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Amolo Odinga have embarked on a mission to unite the nation through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
Ndile noted that the arrest of the governor is politically-driven. The county boss is accused of embezzling of Sh357 million belonging to the taxpayers alongside other officials from the county government.
