Speaking on Tuesday after Nyoro installed himself as governor in an interim capacity, Gakuyo said that he supported the move made by Nyoro.

"I have come here to support what the court said and to support DG Nyoro. (Mimi nimekuja hapa kusupport vile koti imesema na kusupport DG Nyoro), " the leader of the defunct Ekeza SACCO said.

His words come amid growing divisions in the Waititu led Kiambu County administration.

Gakuyo and Governor Waititu were allies before the 2017 elections but fell out after claiming that he had been sidelined by the county administration.

He in fact shelved his own gubernatorial ambitions in support of Waititu's bid.

Governor Waititu faces a raft of graft charges alongside his wife Susan Ndung'u and continues to grapple with resistance from within his administration.

Gakuyo spoke out after a court ordered the Kiambu County boss not to go back to Kiambu County offices until the charges uncovered by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) are heard and determined.

Waititu has long protested his innocence, saying that the graft charges leveled against him are politically motivated.
