The former Vice President is facing a rebellion from his close political allies even as 2022 general election knocks.

There have been a lot of political activities in Ukambani with Kalonzo being the subject in the last two weeks.

Last Sunday, Ukambani governors Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos) formed the People’s Empowerment Movement (PEM) to champion the region’s development and unity.

The three governors have openly castigated Kalonzo for the region’s poor development.

Kiambu based political analyst Peter Ngure observes that the People’s Movement could have been formed to end Kalonzo’s dominance in Kamba politics.

Ngure argues that Kalonzo’s political future hangs in the balance unless he acts quickly to reclaim his  dominance.

Here are three things Kalonzo needs to do urgently in order to regain his dominance in Ukambani politics ahead of the much anticipated 2022 general election:

1. Unite Kamba politicians and locals

The Wiper leader needs to ensure that all Kamba politicians and locals are speaking in once voice ahead of 2022 polls.

Apparently, Kalonzo is not seeing eye to eye with some politicians among them Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua.

Kalonzo fell-out with Mutua after the 2013 general election.

The Wiper Party leader can restore his dominance if he rallies and unites the Kamba community.

2. Stamp authority in his Wiper party

Kalonzo Musyoka must ensure that there is unity in his party.

Wiper is currently facing wrangles pitting its chairman Kivutha Kibwana and some members.

A section of the party members is pushing for Kibwana’s removal over alleged claims of frustrating Kalonzo’s 2022 presidential bid.

3. Address alleged wrangles pitting Wiper MCAs and Ukambani governors

Ukambani governors have accused Wiper MCAs of allegedly frustrating their work.

The governors argue that Kalonzo has failed to call the MCAs to order.

They claim that frustrations from the county legislators delay development in the three counties.

Ngilu is currently embroiled in a tussle with Kitui MCAs over a proposed supplementary budget.

The MCAs have refused to approve the budget, accusing Ngilu of overseeing a corrupt administration.

Kalonzo is likely to regain his dominance and increase his chances of ascending to power in 2022 if he urgently addresses the above issues.

The former Vice President is among the top politicians who have declared their interests in 2022 presidential election.

Kalonzo has severally said he has been patient enough hence it is time for him to ascend to the presidency.
