Chaotic celebrations rocked Motembe village in Kemera Ward on Monday hours after a Kenyan teacher was awarded Sh100 million for his contributions towards education system.
Mr Peter Mokaya was on Sunday awarded the top prize in Dubai by Varkey Foundation having beat ten others in the best teacher competition. The awards are given annually.
Kemera MCA George Morara said Mr Mokaya's humility and hard-work was instrumental in his top achievement, adding that he's a role model back at home.
"We have simply come out to congratulate Mr Mokaya, who hails from my ward. It's such a remarkable achievement and I am happy that he managed to win. As a ward, we are really happy.
"He's a role model to many of us and started his teaching journey at home before moving to Nakuru. We shall have homecoming party so that we celebrate his achievements," he said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was among first Kenyans to celebrate Mr Mokaya moments after being confirmed as the winner of the prize award that saw him pocket Sh100 million.
Three weeks ago, Mr Morara held a thanksgiving ceremony for Mr Mokaya at Motembe village, a ceremony which saw hundreds of locals attending.
There were celebrations from Motembe to Kemera market on Monday as excited youths chanted Mokaya's name with some calling for elevation as minister in President Uhuru Kenyatta's government.
"We are excited. This is a massive achievement by one of us. We shall also hold a proper homecoming ceremony when he comes back. I can assure you that at home, we are really inspired," said Jacob Abere about the Physics teacher.
