Economist David Ndii has taken a swipe on Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i over a proposal to legalise marijuana in Kenya that has already been put forth.
At Pangani Girls on Friday, Dr Matiang'i revealed that someone has already applied for a license to build a factory that processes Cannabis pharmaceuticals, adding that he's not ready to allow it.
"We have an application on my desk right now by some lunatic who's saying they need a license to build a factory in Kenya that processes cannabis for pharmaceutical use," he said.
In Kenya, use of Marijuana or its products is prohibited. There have been calls to legalise it for medical and recreational purposes but the government has refused to back down.
In a tweet on Friday, Dr Ndii took a jab at Matiang'i, arguing that he is losing track. Ndii said that legalisation of Marijuana would help in medical field.
"My friend @FredMatiangi.You are losing it. I’d expect you know that cannabis has medicinal uses, just morphine is derived from opium poppy. We were together in SUNY and you saw how Aringo struggled to live down his Moi sycophancy. Don’t go there. You will be back with us soon," he tweeted.
Similar calls were made by Raila Odinga Junior who said that there are plans to present a bill in parliament advocating for legalisation of bhang as it's know in Kenya.
"I don’t know who made the application to the CS, but there obviously 2 schools of thought when it comes to medical marijuana, we pro-#legalizeit are drafting a bill for parliament. Sentiments of leaders who cannot fathom parallel thoughts are unsettling. Many options available," he tweeted.
Recently, Canada passed a legislation that allows her citizens to use marijuana for recreational and medical purposes. Several states in US among them Nevada have also legalised it.
