A drunk police officer working as an escort on the SGR cargo train was on Thursday removed from duty after firing a bullet while on board the locomotive.

The officer identified as Bernard Ng’ang’a, was disarmed after the incident.

The incident on the train was confirmed by Emali OCS Gerrishon Murithi. The cargo train was headed for Mombasa. 

Reports indicate that the officer started drinking when the train reached Athi River. Ng’ang’a is said to have become unruly.

When the train reached the Sultan Hamud area, the officer is believed to have asked the train drivers to stop the locomotive or he shoots them.

At this point, Ng’ang’a corked his gun and shot through the window. Nobody was injured during the incident. 

His colleague alerted the train drivers who stopped in at the Emali station.

Nga'ng'a was disarmed and his duties taken over by another officer.
