Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria's close relationship with opposition leader Raila Odinga is now raising eyebrows with claims that the vocal legislator has shifted allegiance from Deputy President William Ruto to Raila even as 2022 succession politics gain momentum.
On Saturday, Kuria visited Raila’s home turf (Kisumu) where he praised the handshake between the ODM party leader and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kuria told Kisumu residents that the handshake is what matters most and not 2022 politics.
On Sunday, Kuria joined Raila at the Kasarani stadium for the 'Mashemaji' derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards and the two were seen shaking hands.
Political pundits now argue that there is something Moses Kuria is portraying in regards to the 2022 polls and Mt Kenya succession politics.
Peter Ngure, a political pundit argues that Mt Kenya has embraced Raila.
In an interview on Monday, Ngure said that Mt Kenya could be using Kuria to reach out to Raila ahead of the 2022 general election.
“The meetings and close relationship that is developing between Moses Kuria and Raila is a sign that Mt Kenya is ready to work with the former Prime Minister," he said.
Ngure said that it is also a clear indication that Kuria might have dumped DP Ruto.
“The change of tune is suspicious and I think there is something the Mt Kenya region could be planning ahead of 2022,” he said.
Kuria has been among top Mt Kenya politicians advocating for DP Ruto’s 2022 presidency.
However, in the recent days, the Gatundu South MP seems to be avoiding the Deputy President even as speculations of rifts in the Jubilee party over the 2022 polls continues to widen.
