In an interview on Radio Citizen's Mjadala Wa Citizen on Monday morning, Kibwana rubbished claims that he joined the party to secure a win in the 2017 elections.

Kibwana said he abandoned his Muungano party for Wiper after persuasions from the former Vice President.

He revealed how Kalonzo who doubles as the Ukambani defacto kingpin approached him to join the party and aid him steering Ukambani political issues.

"I did not need Wiper as I was going to win anyway. It's Kalonzo who approached and persuaded me to join him in Wiper and despite lamentations from my supporters, I joined him," Kibwana said.

"He told me to help him with flagship politics and in exchange, I was to receive a direct ticket and take part in MCAs nominations," he added.

Regarding the growing distance and intensifying rivalry, Kibwana claimed that Kalonzo has been breaking their merger agreements by leaving him out of important issues.

He claimed that Kalonzo has refused to stick by their Memorandum of Understanding signed in the presence of over 5,000 people in the run-up to the elections.

"He seems to have changed his mind on our agreement and has been leaving me out on issues we agreed we will jointly tackle. I cannot force myself on him," he said.

Kibwana said he is ready to move out of the party and abandon his Wiper chairmanship should Kalonzo remain bullish.

Both Kalonzo and Kibwana have been using their lieutenants to bash each other, each camp accusing the other of propagating the apparent hostility.
