Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa has endorsed Deputy President William Ruto to take over the country's top seat after President Uhuru Kenyatta completes his second and last term in 2022.
Speaking during a fundraising function at Kesses Constituency, Uasin Gishu County today (Sunday), Ichung’wa said they are confident Ruto will succeed Kenyatta in 2022.
“We have no doubt that William Ruto will succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 and continue with the trans-formative agenda of changing peoples lives, ” he said.
Ichung’wa was among other legislators both from Jubilee Party and National Super Alliance (NASA) who asked Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga to quit politics and concentrate on his new job.
“Because he has a bigger job in the whole of Africa, he should now leave local politics to us,” said Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale also echoed their sentiments, arguing that “An old man is not allowed to dance with young people, Raila played dance with Matiba, Moi and Kibaki, he should quit now because his time is over."
This comes after Raila was appointed the African Union ambassador in charge of political development and infrastructure by African Union Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat.
