The Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi last evening led a team of experts in reviewing the proposed amendments to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association at the 49th Annual Conference of the Association - Africa Region.
Speaking at the Grand Palm Resort in Gaborone, Botswana, when he chaired the meeting of the Sub-committee on the Constitution Amendment, Speaker Muturi reiterated the need for reforms in the structure and administration of the regional Parliamentary body to effectively deliver on its critical mandate of championing for open governance and Parliamentary Democracy.
Muturi who is a top contender for the position of the CPA-Africa, Executive Committee Chairperson, has also been leading the calls for reforms at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association-International, among them for the change of status of the organisation, which is currently registered as a Charitable Organisation in the United Kingdom.
Flanked by (Dr.) Makali Mulu, Janet Sitienei, Lemanken Aramat, Muriuki Njagagua, Senators Jones Mwaruma and Petronila Were, Speaker Muturi is leading the Kenyan Delegation to the 49th CPA Conference hosted by the Parliament of Botswana.
Themed "The Role of African Parliament in Fostering National and Regional Security" the Conference which kicked-off on Monday this week (August 13th) runs to August 22nd and will address a wide range of issues including combating human trafficking, the nexus between climate change and conflicts in Africa, among others.
