In what could be a dramatic moment in the history of Kenyan politics, Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru seems to have technically decamped from Deputy President William Ruto team.
For the last one year, Waiguru has been a key figure in Ruto's team, organising functions at Mt Kenya in which DP Ruto has been a regular visitor.
But on Thursday, Waiguru led a team of women in castigating early campaigns that have been perpetuated by Ruto's team against the blessings of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"We cannot be in electioneering mood all the time. This is the time we should all be working for the people who elected us. Early campaigns are distracting development and we call upon this moving around the country to stop.
"The Building Bridges Initiative must also be embraced. The president and Raila Odinga decided to work together for prosperity of this nation. This is what we must embrace."
Her sentiments are directly opposite of her recent movements where she has been drumming support for the DP across Mt Kenya region which is growing restless.
The Thursday's press conference was the third in a row geared towards defending President Uhuru Kenyatta's 'washenzi' remarks which irked political temperature in Mt Kenya region.
A section of area MPs allied to Ruto led by Kimani Ngunjiri shifted the remarks to mean that the president may have called voters from the region fools, a claim that presidency has since dismissed.
Waiguru dismissed Ruto's allies who had claimed that the region had been sidelined, insisting that Uhuru had initiated several development projects in the past six years.
