Their gospel radio shows which know no denomination enjoy a cult-like following among the Gikuyu listeners who tune in to listen to them.

Lucy Wa Ngunjiri and Muturi Wa Muiru of Kameme FM and Inooro FM respectively are trusted by many to offer spiritual guidance through their shows, 'Itaha ria Muoyo' on Kameme and 'Kimuri' on Inooro FM.

These shows on the two rival stations are so popular that listeners have come to christen them as 'kanitha ka Wangunjiri' meaning 'Wangunjiri's church' and 'kanitha ga Kimuri' meaning 'Kimuri Church'.

But which of the two shows and presenters really rocks?

Well, it is hard to tell. According to a GeoPoll survey for quarter one, 2018 on radio audience ratings both stations are neck to neck when both shows air.

If that is the case let's use a different parameter by focusing on how each of the two radio hosts presents their shows and leave you to be the judge.

Lucy Wa Ngunjiri

When she took over 'Itaha ria Muoyo' from a Kameme former presenter, Mukami Wa Chege, around the year 2003, the show was hardly known. It is Wangunjiri who has steered the show to be the big 'movement' it is today.

She started on very well where she led her listeners through a lengthy, sorrowful prayer that even led some listeners to tears. After that, she would read various Bible verses and preach heartily about them. The show gained a gigantic following!

But as you would expect from every human, when Wangunjiri allowed fame to get into her head, she started to lose control. Today she is a theologian, preacher, politician among other things that make her deviate from what 'Itaha ria Muoyo' was originally known for.

You will notice that in her so-called theological teachings, she will blend Gikuyu and English languages and though she interprets for the listener, one is left wondering what it was meant to achieve. Some conservative listeners say she does it to 'show off'.

The presenter has also been accused of taking political stances that some listeners perceive to be divisive as it was the case in the run-up to last year's general election.

Having said that, Wangunjiri is still relied upon by millions of her loyal listeners to offer spiritual guidance and support and many have had big transformations in their lives through her.

Muturi Wa Muiru

He has been the 'Kimuri' host since Inooro FM inception in 2003. Muturi has also been able to steer his show to unimaginable heights to command a huge following.

The presenter is well versed on biblical matters which comes out as he presents the show. The analogies he uses to drive his biblical messages home, help to spice up the show further.

Muturi who also presents casual and funeral announcements both on Inooro radio and TV is, however, accused by critics of being boring and dull. There are other that even say he is not as spiritual as Wangunjiri which makes his show hype-less. But it all depends on what you perceive and interpret to be spiritual.

So, who between the two rocks? Be the judge!
