Wrangles at Maseno West Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK), on Tuesday took an interesting turn after some church members tabled a petition, seeking to break away from the diocese.
Led by Daniel Wasonga, Arch Deacon Paul Okinyo and Fanuel Wagunde, the faithful demanded the formation of a new diocese which they want named Maseno Central.
Drawn from Regea and Ramula Deaneries, they argued that the leadership of Maseno West Diocese as is currently constituted, doesn't enhance unity and spiritual well-being of faithful.
"This factor will definitely play negatively upon faith and spiritual as well as physical and psychological well-being of Christians thus necessitating our desire to move out," they said in a petition presented to Bishop John Godia.
They also pointed out that currently having 56 parishes, Maseno West is too big, proposing that 22 be allowed to break away and form the proposed Maseno Central.
However, addressing the press after receiving the petition, the Bishop said the break away push cannot be granted as the push did not follow the right channel.
He said the documents presented were not discussed in the deaconry committee, deanery and the church, which is a mandatory requirement during such initiatives.
"I am hardly four months in office and I have made it known to them that their notification is not birthed out of goodwill but protest, and it will be difficult to convince anyone otherwise," he said.
