The students, six girls and two boys appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate E. H Keago.

According to the prosecution, the eight are said to have joined forces in setting a dormitory named Malawi on fire on July 5,  2019, in Vyulya Mwala sub-county.

Five mattresses and other beddings worth Sh 25,000 burnt to ashes.

The eight pleaded not guilty except one whose mention will be on Tuesday for further directions.

The rest were granted Sh50,000 bond with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of Sh20,000.

Out of the seven, only two were unable to raise the bail money.

The case of the seven will be mentioned on July 16.

Five students from the school are receiving treatment at Machakos Level Five Hospital after suffering burns during the arson attack.

Some parents of the students told journalists that contrary to reports by the school, their children suffered severe burns.

"My daughter cannot wear pants properly because she passed right through the fire with bare feet, from the waist downwards, she suffered burns that can't be considered minor as the reports by the school say," said a parent who sought anonymity.
