Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Friday they said the law is ill intended and will increase prostitution.

“As religious leaders, we condemn this move with the strongest terms possible since a 16 years old cannot make a comprehensive decision of his life or whether to have sex or not since they are still children,” Bishop Ng’an’ga said.

They called on the court of appeal judges not to change the law whatsoever.

“The Court of Appeal judges should rethink their proposal before imposing it to Kenya since the law will bring more harm than good to our children and as the men of the cloth we won't allow that,” he added.

This comes after three Court of Appeal judges proposed a law change into the country’s age of consent seeking to lower it from 18 to 16 years.

Judges Roselyn Nambuye, Daniel Musinga, and Patrick Kiage, ruled that it is time for the country to change the Sexual Offences Act since sentences have been given to young men found guilty of defilement.
