National Fund for the Disabled donations committee chair, Julia Ojiambo, has cautioned people living with disabilities against selling tools donated to them by the fund.
Ojiambo said the donations are meant to improve living standards of those living with disabilities hence should not be sold out.
"The beneficiaries of these donations should not sell them, they are gifts from God. These tools of the trade can change your lives completely," Ojiambo said.
She spoke during the donations of various tools to people living with disabilities at Machakos County Commissioner, Sam Ojwang's office on Monday.
Ojiambo said each of the beneficiaries received a donation of tools worth not less than Sh20,000.
She said 25 people living with disabilities from the region benefited.
Ojiambo said the issue of disabilities among Kenyans has come rampant due to increased rates of accidents.
"People living with disabilities have increased in numbers. Disabilities come daily through diseases, accidents and new births. The government through the National Fund for people living with disabilities will continue supporting those living with disabilities," Ojiambo said.
She said the donations can make the beneficiaries become reach and employers through job creation.
Ojiambo urged assistant chiefs, chiefs and county commissioners to help in sensitization so that people living with disabilities get the necessary assistance.
Machakos County Commissioner Sam Ojwang' cautioned the residents against hiding children living with disabilities in houses.
"People are still hiding children with disabilities, do not hide the children. The government is out to help you raise the children," Ojwang' said."
A child is a child despite his condition, if you hide the children they will miss the government's support," he said.
