Gor Mahia's sensational comeback at Machakos Stadium on Wednesday in a KPL tie against Kakamega Homeboyz had many fans surprised, as they seemed on their way to another spectacular loss.
With Kakamega Homeboyz leading 1-0 at the half-hour mark courtesy of Namanda's 50th-minute strike, few believed that a depleted Gor will even walk away with a point.
Hassan Oktay's men, however, did a special comeback, with Mustapha pulling a close-range strike to level scores at 1-1in the 67th minute.
Even before the fans could celebrate his goal, Boniface Omondi's shot was deflected inside the net to put Gor ahead 2-1 in the 68th minute.
The win has moved the defending champions to second on the log with 32 points from 15 matches.
Gor mahia Hassan Oktay had his say after a memorable comeback and said they will be ready to face Petro in a do-or-die clash.
“We analyzed our opponents at halftime and I told my boys we would score 2 or 3 goals if we were effective on set pieces and corners and that is what happened. We did well and we now shift our focus to Sunday against Petro Atletico (CAF Confederation Cup). I call upon not just Gor Mahia fans but all Kenyan football fans to turn out in large numbers to cheer us,” said Oktay
Gor will now welcome Petro Atletico at Kasarani on Sunday afternoon in what will be an all-to-play-for match.
