The two politicians shared podium at AGC Siongiroi in Bomet, a meeting that was attended by several Rift Valley leaders.

And Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony, Uasing Gishu's Jackson Mandago and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot played an integral role in persuading the former governor to join forces with Ruto.

"The planning started long time ago. We had Chepkwony, Cheruiyot and Mandago doing the reconciliation. They held a series of meetings before an agreement was reached.

"I can assure you that of course we gave him an offer which he gladly accepted. The main motive is to minimise rebellion in Rift Valley. He could join cabinet, you never know," said David Ogwagwa, the DP's aide.

After the fundraiser, Ruto was locked in a meeting with South Rift leadership whete he reportedly asked them to work with him to deliver development.

His allies, led by Chepalungu MP Brighton Yegon, accused a section of rebels of allegedly 'intimidating Ruto' after receiving handouts.

"Even MPs are hungry most of the time. When you see those fellows making noise, just don't be scared. They are given handouts to do so," he said.

MPs Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills), Silas Tiren (Moiben) and Cherangany's Joshua Kutuny have openly accused Ruto of orchastrating maize farming stalemate that has seen genuine farmers go without pay.
