At least ten people have recorded statements at DCI in Kisii over a scheme that saw them lose millions to a member of Nyamira's First Family.
Detectives have closed up in the investigations and before the end of this week, Mr. Ondara Obutu could be arraigned in court over fraud.
Two victims (names withheld due to active investigations), have opened up how they ended losing hundreds of shillings to Mr. Ondara for months now.
"I know he's linked to the First Family and he promised to secure employment for my wife at the Health department. I parted with Sh200, 000," said one victim.
Another victim added: "He is a government functionary and I see him driving in government vehicles. He approached me and offered to help me secure employment and I ended giving Sh350,000. He no longer picks calls."
Besides using links to the First Family, Mr.Ondara also duped his victims to sign an agreement to avoid suspicion.
Detectives have collected MPESA messages and agreements purportedly from the suspect which they will use as evidence to nail him.
Mr. Ondara is brother-in-law to Governor John Nyagarama and is said to be protected by First Lady, Naomi Nyagarama, who is the sister to him.
Efforts to reach him for comment over fraud allegations were futile as calls went unanswered and even text messages.
