Deputy President William Ruto's assassination claims are sideshows meant to divert attention from serious issues, Tiaty MP William Kamket has said.

DCI George Kinoti on Monday confirmed that Dr Ruto had complained about an alleged assassination plot being hatched allegedly by some ministers from Mt Kenya.

But in a tweet, Mr Kamket, a close ally of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, said that the claims are untrue, adding that Ruto can only die 'politically'.

"Cowards die many times before their death. If William Ruto must die, he must die POLITICALLY. Ignore the sideshows meant for cheap sympathy. My friend, malipo ni hapa hapa duniani," he said.

The DP is yet to record a formal statement over the allegations. Both Moi and Ruto are keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Trade minister Peter Munya, who was also linked to the plot, dismissed the allegations of plotting to kill Ruto. He did not record any statement on Monday.

“They have confirmed to us that the DP made a call and complained that some Cabinet secretaries and some other Government officers have been meeting at La Mada and gave us a specific date of May 14, and that (in the) meeting there were plans that were being hatched to kill him."

“These are very serious allegations especially coming from a person of the stature of a DP occupying an extremely powerful and important office in the land. I would expect somebody in that office to do a proper investigation before making unsubstantiated and wild allegations of that nature,” he said.
