6:00 pm: The arrest of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu is all about "revisiting" September 1, 2017, Supreme Court ruling, David Ndii, a renowned economist and a strong critic of the Jubilee administration has said.
5:55 pm: Lawyer Donald Kipkorir says, "Arrest of Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu, one who has Security Of Tenure, on the allegation of a bribe of paltry Kshs. 12m signals a new phase by President Uhuru Kenyatta in consolidating his legacy ... 5: 50 pm: Activist Boniface Mwangi says on Twitter that the DPP should ensure that top government officials who are facing corruption-related charges are jailed and the assets they allegedly stole are recovered.
5:45 pm: Professor Makau Mutua, who was interviewed for the position of Chief Justice, says he expects other senior judiciary officials to be arrested.
5:37 pm: Lawyer Miguna Miguna, who was deported to Canada by the government, says the DCJ's arrest is nothing but "revisiting" the Supreme Court ruling that saw President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8 election win nullified.
DCJ MWILU RELEASED
5:30 pm: DJC Mwilu released on Sh5 million bond, to appear in court tomorrow, Wednesday, August 29, 2018, by 9 am.
5:22 pm: Justice Mwilu's lawyers include: James Orengo, John Khaminwa, Haron Ndubi, Daniel Maanzo, Nelson Havi, Julie Soweto, Jackson Adele, Edward Waswa, Okong'o Omogeni.
The prosecution tells the court that if released on bail, the DCJ is likely to interfere with investigations being conducted on her, considering she is a senior judiciary officer.
5:18 pm Siaya Senator James Orengo is leading a team of lawyers in court, in trying to apply and secure a bail for the arrested Lady Justice Philomena Mwilu.
DCJ MWILU ARRESTED
Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu has been arraigned in court over corruption allegations.
The DCJ was on Tuesday afternoon arrested at the Supreme Court.
The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji said he had informed Chief Justice David Maraga of his decision to grant consent for the arrest and prosecution of the deputy chief justice, on criminal charges
Mwilu is accused of failing to pay taxes and executing a security belonging to the Imperial Bank, which collapsed in 2015, under false pretences.
Haji, in a statement, said the DCJ had abused her office for personal gain and accepted money as a gift in dubious circumstances.
