The exercise which officially kicked off on Tuesday was led by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) boss Raila Odinga.

Speaking on Tuesday, the ODM Senator expressed his opposition to the exercise, terming it illegal, after the Senate was not involved in scrutinising and approving it.

"I don't support it and I will not because it was done illegally. The intention could be good, but the process was wrong as it was never presented to the Senate for approval," he said.

The lawmaker was speaking on Citizen TV's News Night show hours after Raila who presided over the start of the exercise in Mombasa fully endorsed it.

Ole Kina said that though he support's Raila 100 per cent, he will not shy away from opposing what he feels is being done wrong.

He added that the same applies to President Uhuru who is currently working closely with the former Prime Minister after their March 2018 truce.

"I completely support Raila but not on this one. I will also always be around to fault the President and tell him he is wrong whenever he is," he added.

Uhuru presided over the exercise in Machakos County, where he said that the new number will ease the burden of Kenyans having numerous documents.
